  1. Nah, Gale Sondergaard should have won for Anna and the King of Siam. The 36 Oscar should have gone to Mary Astor in Dodsworth and the 37 Oscar to Dame May Whitty in Night Must Fall. Alice Brady in Young Mr. Lincoln would have been a close second to Hattie McDaniel in Gone With the WInd.

    • I have to take issue with GALE SONDERGAARD for winning BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS 1946 because I don’t believe that ANNE BAXTER deserves to be DeOscarized for her performance in THE RAZOR’S EDGE. MARY ASTOR has been denied many a deserving Academy Award in her time and career. DAME MAY WHITTY had already perfected her role in NIGHT MUST FALL in over 300 performances of the role on the theatrical stage so it’s not really a pure film performance. ALICE BRADY gave a beautiful performance of great pathos in YOUNG MR. LINCOLN but as long as HATTIE McDANIEL is there, close only counts in horseshoes.
